Monk strap shoes close with a buckled strap instead of laces. They sit between an Oxford and a loafer in formality, so monk strap dress shoes work with a suit and still look right with chinos.
A single monk strap has one buckle and a cleaner line. A double monk strap has two and makes the buckles the feature. Both come in cap toe, apron toe, wingtip and brogue designs.
The black cap toe double monk and the black single monk are the business pairs. Brown and cognac burnished monks are the most versatile. Need a size, width or color you don't see? Ask about Custom Made.
One buckle for a quieter look, two for more presence.
Single monk strap shoes are the dressier, more understated choice and sit closest to an Oxford. Double monk strap shoes carry more detail and work with a suit or with denim. Croc-embossed, spectator and patina monk straps are for when you want the shoe to lead the outfit.
The buckle adjusts the instep, not the toe room.
The strap tightens over the instep a little like laces, and the buckle can be set looser or tighter as the leather settles. It doesn't change the forefoot, so choose your width (D, E, EE or EEE) for toe room before a longer size. Every pair is made in US sizes 6 to 15, including half sizes.
Black for business, brown and burgundy for business-casual.
Black monk strap shoes suit business and formal events. Brown, cognac and burgundy cover business-casual. Monk straps also suit weddings; see men's wedding shoes. Each pair's leather, buckle finish, sole and construction are listed on its product page.
