Last & Fit
How these single monk strap dress shoes fit
The toe is rounded with balanced volume, comfortable for all-day wear. A monk strap fastens with a buckle, which gives a small amount of adjustment over the instep: more than a loafer, less than laces. When the shoe is new the strap should fasten on a middle hole, so you have room to tighten it as the leather settles. If it only closes on the last hole, you need a wider width. Order your usual US dress shoe size, which is often different from your sneaker size. We make men's single monk strap dress shoes in every size from 6 to 15 including half sizes, so size 13, 14 and 15 are made like any other size.
The four widths are D (standard), E (wide), EE (extra wide) and EEE. A high instep is the usual reason a monk strap feels tight, and the fix is a wider width, not a longer shoe, because extra length makes the heel slip. The shoe should hold your heel firmly with the buckle fastened. Try them with the dress socks you plan to wear.

This shoe uses the monk strap as a frame for colour. Amber runs through the vamp, a deeper brown around the quarters and burgundy across the brogued toe, with darker burnishing at the edges. Each tone is applied by hand to its own panel, so the seams of the shoe become the boundaries of the colour. The toe carries brogue perforations, which gives the front its own detail. A patina in several colours takes longer than one in a single tone, because each area has to be finished and blended into its neighbour without the colours running together. The single strap crosses the instep to a plain metal buckle, and the darker burnishing at the edges ties the three tones together.
Amber, brown and burgundy patina · Brogue toe · Single buckle
The toe is rounded with balanced, everyday volume, and the sole and lining are leather. The pair is hand-welted with closed-channel stitching, so the sole edge is clean, and it can be resoled. No two pairs finish exactly alike. Men's single monk strap dress shoes in a patina like this suit tweed, flannel and autumn tailoring, and they stand out at a wedding. It suits anyone searching for patina monk strap shoes, brogue monk straps, hand-painted dress shoes or single monk strap shoes in brown and burgundy. These are handmade monk strap dress shoes, made to order in your size and width.

Common questions
Use the size guide for US sizing, width and last guidance. If you are between sizes or unsure about width/last, compare your measurements with the product fit notes or contact Handsole before production. Break-in varies by the specific upper, lining, sole, construction and fit.
If the fit needs attention, contact us under the Fit Promise so we can review the issue and the available remake, adjustment or return option for that order.
Break-in varies by leather, lining, last and fit. A correctly sized pair should feel secure rather than painfully tight; the leather and insole will gradually conform with wear.
Construction details for this product are listed in the Materials & Construction section above. Where the build is resoleable, the upper can be retained while a worn sole is replaced when the pair remains serviceable.
Choose from the widths offered above. If you need unusual forefoot or instep room, have different left/right measurements, or repeatedly struggle with fit, review the Sizing & Fit guide or contact us before production so we can compare the available last/width options or a custom adjustment.
Remove loose dust with a soft brush or clean cloth. Follow the care instructions for the specific leather and finish; suede, patent, patina and two-tone uppers may need different products. Test any suitable cleaner, cream or conditioner on an inconspicuous area first, and use separate clean applicators on contrasting colours. Condition only when the leather and finish need it, rather than on a fixed schedule. Let damp shoes dry naturally away from direct heat. Contact Handsole before attempting recolouring or using a treatment whose compatibility is uncertain.
