A brown wholecut Oxford with a continuous-looking aniline leather upper, an elongated almond toe and darker burnishing at the front. Golden-tan laces create a restrained contrast across the closed lace opening, echoed by the warm sole edge and layered heel. The plain upper lets the color transitions and outline remain the main features. Wholecut dress shoes for men in burnished brown aniline leather.

Fit Confidence
⊞
The lace closure lets you adjust the hold across the instep, though the smooth, close-set opening offers less visual spread than an open-laced Derby. Choose for your usual dress-shoe length and width rather than sizing down because the toe looks long. Use the Fit Guide if you have a high instep, a very broad forefoot or regularly feel toe pressure.

Last & Fit
How these wholecut dress shoes fit
The forepart is an elongated almond shape. An Oxford has closed lacing, so it is the least adjustable style over the instep. When new, the laces should close with a narrow V-shaped gap that shuts as the leather settles. If the two sides meet completely on the first day, the shoe is too big; if the gap is wide, you need a wider width. Order your usual US dress shoe size, which is often different from your sneaker size. We make men's wholecut dress shoes in every size from 6 to 15 including half sizes, so size 13, 14 and 15 are made like any other size.
With no seams across the vamp, a wholecut holds its shape and does not stretch much, so choose the width carefully. The four widths are D (standard), E (wide), EE (extra wide) and EEE. A high instep or a broad forefoot is solved with width, not length, because a longer Oxford creases in the wrong place and slips at the heel. Try them with the dress socks you plan to wear.
This Oxford has no toe cap and no brogue pattern. The upper is a wholecut, a single piece of brown aniline leather, so the surface is uninterrupted from the toe to the laces. Aniline leather is dyed through without a heavy coating, which means the grain shows and every flaw would too; only clean leather can be used. After the shoe is made, the toe and edges are burnished by hand to a darker brown, which gives a plain shoe its depth. The laces run through closed Oxford lacing, the lining is leather and the sole is brown-toned leather. A wholecut uses more leather than any other pattern, because the single piece has to be cut from the best part of the hide and the rest cannot be patched in.
Wholecut · Burnished brown aniline leather · Golden-tan laces
Golden-tan laces are the one contrast on the shoe, picking up the lighter tones in the leather. The toe is a long almond shape. The pair is hand-welted with the welt stitching visible along the sole edge, lined in leather, and can be resoled. Brown wholecut dress shoes are less formal than black and more useful: they work with navy, grey and tan suits, with separates and with dark denim. If you want brown dress shoes for men that are quiet and well made, this is the pair. It suits anyone searching for a brown wholecut Oxford, brown leather Oxford shoes, wholecut leather shoes or men's dress shoes for the office. These are handmade Oxford shoes, made to order in your size and width.

Common questions
Use the size guide for US sizing, width and last guidance. If you are between sizes or unsure about width/last, compare your measurements with the product fit notes or contact Handsole before production. Break-in varies by the specific upper, lining, sole, construction and fit.
If the pair doesn’t fit, contact us within 14 days of delivery and we remake it free, with free return shipping.
Break-in varies by leather, lining, last and fit. A correctly sized pair should feel secure rather than painfully tight; the leather and insole will gradually conform with wear.
Construction details for this product are listed in the Materials & Construction section above. Where the build is resoleable, the upper can be retained while a worn sole is replaced when the pair remains serviceable.
Choose from the widths offered above. If you need unusual forefoot or instep room, have different left/right measurements, or repeatedly struggle with fit, review the Sizing & Fit guide or contact us before production so we can compare the available last/width options or a custom adjustment.
Remove loose dust with a soft brush or clean cloth. Follow the care instructions for the specific leather and finish; suede, patent, patina and two-tone uppers may need different products. Test any suitable cleaner, cream or conditioner on an inconspicuous area first, and use separate clean applicators on contrasting colours. Condition only when the leather and finish need it, rather than on a fixed schedule. Let damp shoes dry naturally away from direct heat. Contact Handsole before attempting recolouring or using a treatment whose compatibility is uncertain.
