Black aniline leather · Leather tassels · Tapered toe
A continuous sweep of black aniline leather gives this wholecut tassel loafer its character. The uninterrupted forepart draws attention to the tapered toe, while the paired leather tassels add movement over the vamp. Black piping keeps the opening neatly defined. Beneath the upper, the reddish brown sole edge and layered heel create a warm contrast. This is a slip-on with a dress-shoe silhouette: polished enough for tailored trousers, yet easy to wear with a fine knit, an open-collar shirt or dark denim. Black tassel loafers for men, cut as a wholecut from a single piece of aniline leather.

Tapered toe — this shape defines the shoe's toe profile and internal volume. Choose any listed size and width for this design; we make the pair to your selected configuration.
The tassels are decorative and the vamp has no laces or adjustable strap. A secure fit therefore depends on the heel, instep and forefoot working together. Do not size down simply to remove heel movement if that creates pressure across the vamp. Compare your measurements with the Fit Guide and consider the socks you plan to wear.

How these black tassel loafers fit
A loafer has no laces, so it has to hold your heel and instep by itself. A wholecut has no seams to give, so it should feel secure, not tight, across the top of the foot from the first wear. A little heel lift when new is normal and settles as the leather sole starts to flex; a heel that comes right out of the shoe means the size or width is wrong. Try them with the socks you plan to wear, thin dress socks or no-show socks in summer, because sock thickness changes how a loafer holds. Order your usual US dress shoe size, which is often different from your sneaker size. We make every size from 6 to 15 including half sizes, so men's tassel loafers in size 13, 14 and 15 are made the same way as any other size.
The toe is tapered, so a broad forefoot is better served by a wider width than a longer size. We make four widths: D is standard, E is wide, EE is extra wide and EEE is the widest. Wide width tassel loafers are hard to find ready-made, and going up a size to gain width only makes a loafer slip at the heel, so choose your true length and the width that matches your foot. Aniline leather softens quickly and shapes to the foot within the first few wears. If you have a high instep, or you are between two widths, take the wider one.

Black tassel loafers cut from one piece of leather
Most tassel loafers are made from several panels stitched together. This one is a wholecut: the upper is a single piece of black aniline leather, with no seam across the vamp or along the sides. That only works with a clean hide, because there is no seam to hide a flaw behind, and the leather has to be pulled over the last in one go without wrinkling. On an ordinary loafer the pattern maker can place a scar or a loose patch of grain under a strap or inside a seam. On a wholecut there is nowhere to put it, so more of the hide is set aside and what is used is the best of it. The only line that breaks the surface is a narrow black piping around the opening, and the only decoration is the pair of leather tassels on the vamp.
Wholecut · Black aniline leather · Hand-welted
Aniline leather is dyed through with no heavy surface coating, so the grain shows and the black has depth instead of a flat painted look. It takes polish well and develops a soft shine with wear. The pair is hand-welted, with the welt stitching visible along the sole edge, and it can be resoled when the brown leather sole wears down, so the upper outlasts several soles. If you want men's black tassel loafers that dress up for a suit and still work with dark denim, this is the cleanest tassel loafer we make. It covers most of what people look for in men's dress loafers: black leather loafers for the office, formal loafers for an evening without a tie, and handmade leather loafers made to order in your own size and width.

Common questions
Yes. A black wholecut is the most formal kind of loafer: one piece of leather, no broguing and no metal. Wear these men's black tassel loafers with a charcoal, navy or black suit, with or without a tie. They also work with tailored trousers and dark denim.
A wholecut is a shoe whose upper is cut from a single piece of leather, with no seams across the vamp or along the sides. It needs a clean hide and careful lasting, which is why wholecut loafers are less common than loafers made from several panels.
Aniline leather is dyed through with a transparent dye and has no heavy surface coating, so the natural grain shows and the black has depth. Brush off dust, use a black cream polish, and buff with a soft cloth. If the leather gets wet, let it dry at room temperature, away from heat. Keep cedar shoe trees in the pair between wears.
Yes. Every pair is made to order in US sizes 6 to 15 including half sizes, and in four widths: D (standard), E (wide), EE (extra wide) and EEE. Wide width tassel loafers and large sizes are made exactly like any other pair, in the same leather.
Yes. The sole is stitched to a welt that is sewn to the upper by hand, so a cobbler can remove a worn leather sole and fit a new one without disturbing the upper. A well-kept pair can be resoled several times.
This pair is made after you order it. Production takes 7 to 10 working days before dispatch. If you need a size, width or colour that is not listed, ask about Custom Made before ordering.
