The first solution to a wide foot should usually be the right last and width, not a longer size or automatic custom order. Custom review becomes useful when standard geometry still cannot solve the real fit problem.
A wide foot does not automatically require a custom shoe.

If an existing Handsole design is offered in E, EE or EEE and that geometry suits the foot, a standard made-to-order configuration may solve the problem cleanly.
Custom Made becomes more relevant when the standard system has been evaluated and still cannot solve the fit requirement.
First determine whether width is actually the problem
A shoe can feel tight for several reasons:
- insufficient forefoot width,
- high instep,
- low toe-box depth,
- incorrect ball position,
- wrong last shape,
- or simply too-short length.
Do not label every tight shoe “too narrow.”

That is still a standard width within the product system.

- very narrow heel,
- unusually high instep,
- unusual toe spread,
- or other volume relationships.
Moving wider can solve the forefoot while making the heel too loose.
That is when the problem stops being “width only.”

A wider size may give forefoot comfort but reduce heel hold.
Before jumping to Custom Made:
- compare lasts,
- compare shoe styles,
- and consider whether lacing/instep geometry can help.

A wider shoe may create side-to-side looseness without solving the top pressure appropriately.

Do not treat width as a contest where the largest label wins.
A correctly fitted E can be better than an unnecessarily loose EEE.
The target is enough room at the forefoot while preserving:

- and stable walking.
