How these tassel loafers fit

The shape is a refined almond toe. It should grip the heel and sit close over the instep, with a little heel lift at first that settles as the sole flexes. Order your usual US dress shoe size, 6 to 15 including half sizes. We make men's tassel loafers in every size from 6 to 15, including size 13, 14 and 15. Try them with the socks you plan to wear, and remember your dress shoe size is often different from your sneaker size.

The braided edge around the opening is firm when new and softens with wear. For a wider foot choose E, EE or EEE and keep your length. The four widths are D (standard), E (wide), EE (extra wide) and EEE. Going up a size to gain width only makes a loafer slip at the heel, so choose your true length and the width that matches your foot. Wide width tassel loafers are rarely stocked ready-made; here every width is made to order.

Men's loafers with tassels and a braided leather edge

The edge of this loafer is braided. Narrow strips of leather are plaited into a cord and stitched around the opening and the apron, where an ordinary loafer has a plain folded edge. It gives the outline of the shoe more definition and takes far longer to make. A braided edge has to turn the tight curve at the front of the apron and the open curve around the ankle without kinking, so the cord is made to length for each shoe and stitched down by hand. The pair of leather tassels on the vamp is made from the same leather, and there is no metal on the shoe.

The blue is a hand-finished patina, darker in some places and lighter in others, so it reads as a rich colour and not a flat fashion blue. Remove loose dust with a soft brush or clean cloth. Follow the care instructions for the specific leather and finish; suede, patent, patina and two-tone uppers may need different products. Test any suitable cleaner, cream or conditioner on an inconspicuous area first, and use separate clean applicators on contrasting colours. Condition only when the leather and finish need it, rather than on a fixed schedule. Let damp shoes dry naturally away from direct heat. Contact Handsole before attempting recolouring or using a treatment whose compatibility is uncertain.
