These mustard cognac brogue mules combine a hand-dyed leather upper, a rounded cap toe and a cream Vibram rubber sole. Darker shading picks out the toe and perforated panel edges, while the lace-up fastening adjusts the instep and the open heel keeps the design easy to step into.
Round toe — this shape defines the shoe's toe profile and internal volume. Choose any listed size and width for this design; we make the pair to your selected configuration.

How these brogue lace-up mules fit
The round cap toe gives this mule its front profile; the open heel leaves the back of the foot uncovered. Your heel should remain fully on the footbed, with comfortable room at the toes. The laces let you adjust the hold over the instep, but the substantial sole does not establish the amount of room inside the upper.
Measure both feet before choosing length and width, and consider whether you will wear the pair with socks. Aim for a comfortable hold without excessive sliding or pressure from overtightened laces. The selector offers US sizes 6–15, including half sizes, and D, E, EE and EEE widths. Contact us for help using UK, EU or another sizing system.

Brogue decoration usually appears on a closed-back dress shoe. This design takes the cap toe, punched medallion and perforated panel edges and builds them into a backless lace-up mule. A straight cap-toe seam crosses the forepart, while the darker trim follows the eyelet panels and lower sides. It is a cap-toe brogue rather than a wingtip: there is no wing-shaped panel sweeping back from the toe. The crust leather is hand-dyed in mustard cognac, with warmer brown shading around the toe and seams. That contrast makes the pattern readable without using a completely different leather on each panel. Hand dyeing also means that small tonal differences between pairs are expected. The laces remain functional, allowing adjustment across the instep even though the heel is open.
The cream ridged Vibram rubber sole changes the balance of these brogue mules. Its substantial pale edge gives the detailed leather upper a casual foundation, with a dark band separating the two colours. Blake-stitched construction joins the sole directly through the insole and upper instead of using a separate stitched welt. The dark footbed and antibacterial lining complete the interior. Wear these lace-up mules with navy or olive chinos, linen trousers, cropped casual tailoring or simple warm-weather separates; a clean trouser hem leaves the cap toe and open heel visible. They are intended for relaxed dressing rather than a formal occasion that calls for a closed-back shoe. With cap-toe mules, length and instep hold both matter: the heel should rest fully on the footbed, and the laces should hold comfortably without being pulled painfully tight. Each pair is made to order in your chosen size and width. Read the backless-loafer styling guide for outfit ideas, or compare the Backless Loafers collection for a plainer upper or slimmer sole profile.

Common questions about mustard cognac brogue mules
The punched medallion and perforated panel edges are brogue decoration; the open back makes it a mule. This design has a straight cap-toe seam rather than the sweeping toe panel of a wingtip. The laces provide adjustment across the instep.
Yes. This design is specified with a cream Vibram rubber sole. Its ridged profile and substantial pale sidewall form a visible contrast with the mustard cognac upper. Rubber soles still need care on wet or smooth surfaces.
The photographs show the intended mustard cognac colour and darker shading. Hand dyeing can produce small tonal differences between pairs, and screen settings also affect how the colour appears. Learn more about leather patina and tonal finishes.
Start with both feet’s length and width measurements and compare them with the Handsole Fit Guide. The selector offers US sizes 6–15, including half sizes, and widths D, E, EE and EEE. If you use UK, EU or another sizing system, contact us with your usual size and measurements for guidance before production.
Brush dust from the brogue holes with a soft brush. Wipe the leather gently and test any neutral care product on a hidden area before wider use. Clean the cream sole separately with a damp cloth, keeping cleaners off the dyed upper. Let the pair dry naturally away from direct heat.
Standard made-to-order production takes 7–10 working days before dispatch; shipping time is additional. If there is a fit issue after arrival, contact Handsole within 14 days. If the pair doesn't fit, we remake it free under our Fit Promise.
